DESCRIPTION:December 10th brings us Light in the Snow: a concert of Women’s Voices for Advent.  Ian Watson\, director featuring music of the season by Edward Elgar\, Elaine Hagenberg\, Peter Warlock\, John Rutter and more.\nThe series concludes on Dec 17th with the Essex Piano Trio. The Trio will perform Music to Warm your Soul: sweet musical tidbits by French and Russian composers of the late 19th and early 20th century\, as well as some holiday treats from around the world. \nThese concerts are generously supported by the Creative Expressions program of the Massachusetts Cultural Council. The concerts are free and take place in Clark Hall at Hancock Church\, 1912 Massachusetts Ave in Lexington. Free parking is available in the rear of the church. DESCRIPTION:OFFSITE – The Seven Fires Prophecy Suite for Humanity: a concert featuring Kim Moberg\nTuesday\, December 167:00—8:00 PM\nCommunity Center\n39 Marrett Rd\, Lexington\, MA\, 02421 \n\n\nThis event will take place at the Community Center\, 39 Marrett Rd\, Lexington. \nAward winning Indigenous (Tlingit) singer/songwriter Kim Moberg performs a concert of her third album “The Seven Fires Prophecy Suite for Humanity”.  In her research to learn more about Indigenous cultures in North American\, Kim learned of the ancient yet relevant Anishinaabe legend “The Seven Fires Prophecy” which teaches that in order to survive as a species\, human beings must learn to live together with respect for people all colors and cultures in addition to respecting our environment. Kim found the teaching so profound that she composed a suite in the Folk music style to share the legend with her audiences. The album was produced by Grammy nominated producer Jon Evans (Tori Amos / Sarah McLachlan). Kim will be accompanied by the incredible Maxfield Anderson. \nThe performance includes a short video by the Canadian Indigenous artist whose painting “The Sacred Fires Prophecy” Kim used for her album cover art. \nAttendance is on a first-come basis. \nAbout Kim Moberg: \nAward winning singer/songwriter Kim Moberg was born in Juneau\, Alaska\, the daughter of a classical pianist mother of Alaskan Native Tlingit descent and a US Coast Guard veteran father from Kansas. Music was the constant in Kim’s childhood\, helping her to adjust to the frequent moves associated with growing up in a military family. \nKim teamed with Grammy-nominated producer Jon Evans to record three albums\, all receiving world wide airplay in addition to charting on the Folk Alliance International Folk DJ and NACC radio charts. Kim’s latest release “The Seven Fires Prophecy Suite for Humanity” features songs that tie ancient Anishinaabe prophecies to our current social environment. Her 4th album titled  “All That Really Matters” (Jon Evans) is scheduled to be released in 2025. \nKim has received numerous recognitions\, most recently 2021 Rocky Mountain Songwriting Contest Finalist\, 2021 Great American Songwriting Contest Folk/Americana Finalist\, 2020 CT Folk Grassy Hill Songwriting Competition Winner\, 2020 Blues and Roots Radio Contest Finalist and 2020 Corpus Christi Songwriters Spring Songwriters Contest 2nd Place. \nKim is a strong believer in the importance of giving back and being active. Growing up in Tulsa\, Oklahoma\, Maxfield’s home was filled with an array of musical styles. After years of playing violin\, his attention was taken hold by bluegrass and western swing fiddle\, quickly leading him to discover the mandolin. He is also proficient at guitar and clawhammer banjo. Maxfield moved to Boston to study mandolin and American roots music at Berklee College of Music where he graduated with a BFA in Music Performance.  \nTeaching music has always been a big part of Max’s artistry. He believes that traditional music is an excellent vessel for understanding an instrument and finding your own voice as a musician. Teaching at Club Passim since 2020\, Max has taught group courses in Beginner & Intermediate Mandolin\, Bluegrass Ensemble (co-taught with Trevin Nelson)\, and Intro to Tune Writing. He also offers private instruction on mandolin\, fiddle\, guitar\, music theory\, and tune writing out of his home studio. \n  \nAttendance is on a first-come basis. \n  \nThe program is supported in part by grant funding from the Lexington Cultural Council\, a local agency and Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency and sponsored by the Cary Library.

DESCRIPTION:Join Chef Emily Taylor for a culinary journey through the rugged landscapes and refined flavors of the Nordic regions.\n\n\n\nPart-cooking class\, part-history lesson\, the class explores how a culture defined by survival and preservation evolved into one of the most influential gastronomic identities in the world. Emily will intertwine demonstrations of Nordic cooking with discussion around the traditional uses of particular dishes and techniques like lactofermentation and yogurt-making and how they laid the foundation for New Nordic Cuisine. Journey through Nordic history\, starting with the Vikings and the influences their trade practices had on traditional cooking practices through to the food tradition of the local indigenous people of the north before ending with the modern culinary movement birthed in the early aughts. \n  \nClass Menu: \n\nSimple porridge of savory oats with cheese\, dried fruit\, and meat\nDried salted cod\nBlood In The Snow: skyr (yogurt) with fresh pressed ginger and beetroot juice\nSelection of lactofermented pickled vegetables with butter and light caraway rye bread\nGravlax served on rye bread with mustard sauce\, pickled onion\, and dill\nFinnbiff with potatoes (traditional Sami meat and mushroom dish)\nSwedish cardamom buns\n\n  \nAbout Chef Emily Taylor: \nChef Emily has been dabbling in the food industry ever since a fateful dinner at Ten Tables back in 2007 where she was served a simple Spanish squash soup that was so inspiring she just had to figure out how to make it herself. Since then she has continued to explore cultures and regions through travel and food. After an extended journey through Scandinavia\, the Nordics and northern Europe in 2018\, she became enamoured with the ability of Nordic cuisine to be traditional\, cozy and yet at times deeply sophisticated. Determined to fill the Nordic food gap in the Boston area\, she began holding annual Hyggefest suppers at home for lucky friends\, and most recently held several popular Nordic Cafe popups at local farm-to-table restaurant\, Urban Hearth. One of Emily’s greatest joys is to share a table with mirthful guests enjoying accessible and nourishing food together learning about the places and peoples of the world through deliciousness. \n  \nPlease note: if for any reason a class needs to be cancelled\, we will do our best to reschedule the event to another date. His work offers a historical lens on the beauty and resilience of Black hair\, showcasing intimate portraits that reflect the pride\, struggles\, and triumphs of the Black community over decades. \n \n• Jordan Naheesi: A Brooklyn-born\, Los Angeles-based creative multihyphenate\, Jordan has built a remarkable career as a photographer\, videographer\, designer\, and curator. His photography journey began at Ohio University\, where his passion for storytelling through visuals flourished. Biracial\, Queer\, Artist-Activist and\, “one of the fiercest guitar players and politically-rooted musicians in the industry today\,” (Curve Magazine.) Means has worn a hole in two of her guitars with her “insanely brilliant” (Press Herald\, Portland ME) and “stark\, defiant songs” (New York Times). From proest anthems to songs with pointed social commentary\, Means is a fearless singer and performer who challenges\, educates\, and entertains. \nKim Moberg’s rich vocals\, described as “a blend of honey and whiskey”\, gently guides listeners through her musical stories while her compositions tug at feelings of melancholy\, heartbreak\, healing and social consciousness. A native of Alaska and of the Tlingit tribe\, Kim has recorded 4 albums with Grammy nominated producer Jon Evans and has performed at many area coffeehouses including Club Passim and Circle of Friends. \nThe show is presented by Harmony on the Green Coffeehouse Concerts and will be performed in Clark Hall at Hancock Church\, 1912 Massachusetts Ave in Lexington. For Liberty! bridges centuries as middle-school history students help the U.S. Park Service bring the past to life.  \nAt the heart of the musical is the true story of Henry Knox\, a young Boston bookseller who in the winter of 1775–1776 undertook an almost impossible mission: hauling sixty tons of cannon across frozen lakes and snow-covered mountains to save the struggling American Revolution. \nThe production also shines a light on the remarkable woman\, Lucy Knox\, who defied her loyalist family\, sacrificed her fortune\, and sustained Henry’s courage through letters and cake. \nFilled with memorable songs\, lively choreography\, and engaging historical characters\, the show is designed to inspire audiences of all ages while illuminating one of the most dramatic moments in Revolutionary history.
