Susan Moser of Lexington Honored with Greater Boston Foodbank’s Volunteer of the Year Award

The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB), the largest hunger-relief organization in New England, honored Susan Moser, RN, of Lexington with its Volunteer of the Year Award as part of its annual Partner Appreciation Awards.
Since 2003, GBFB’s Partner Appreciation Awards have celebrated the individuals and organizations who collaborate with the food bank to end hunger across Eastern Massachusetts. Awardees represent those who partnered with GBFB to advance its mission through food donations, volunteerism, advocacy, philanthropic support, and in-kind donations; empowering the one in three Massachusetts residents facing food insecurity in Eastern Massachusetts to access nutritious meals.
The Individual Volunteer of the Year Award is awarded to an individual that has volunteered for at least two years and has had a significant impact on GBFB, defined as volunteering at least three times per year.
Susan, a registered nurse and Lexington resident, far exceeds the expectations of our volunteers. She has been volunteering with GBFB since August of 2020 and has devoted over 400+ hours of her precious time to support GBFB’s mission to end hunger here. Thanks to her extensive experience working with GBFB, she now helps support the volunteer training program. She has been a constant even when volunteers were sparse, always finding time to support GBFB’s mission to end hunger here despite a busy schedule working in her community and spending time with her family.
Outside of her work with GBFB, Susan works part-time at LABBB Educational Collaborative as a school nurse and supports her 100-year-old father.
“Susan arrives at each volunteer shift with a smile on her face and ready to assist with any project,” said GBFB Chief Operating Officer Cheryl Schondek. “During the pandemic, it was especially challenging to find volunteers, but Susan has been a constant in our network. She is energized, happy to be here and a delight to have in our warehouse. With this award, we’re grateful for the opportunity to thank Susan for her volunteer efforts and lasting commitment to help provide meals to those in need.”
Ten other awards were given to GBFB’s network of food distribution partners, volunteers, public officials, donors and advocates who have shown dedication to mitigating the food insecurity crisis and providing wide-ranging contributions to hunger-relief. See the full list of honorees here.
