League of Women Voters First Friday

COMMUNITY NOTICE

The League of Women Voters of Lexington to hear from Ricki Pappo, Chair of LexCan (Lexington Climate Action Network), and Lexington resident about her time at COP30, United Nations Climate Change Conference, in Belem, Brazil, as a League of Women Voters Observer. Ricki will be the speaker at our January 2, 2026 First Friday, 9:30-11:00 AM in Room 237, Lexington Community Center. Ricki, spent two weeks immersed in COP30 the massive global summit where nations negotiate the planet’s future. This is where the Paris Accord was born, where breakthrough deals are struck, and where the fate of climate action hangs in the balance. While we’re making strides here in Lexington and Massachusetts, the climate crisis demands worldwide cooperation, innovative solutions, and unprecedented financing. That’s where COP comes in—and this year, we had a front-row seat.

Ricki will take you behind the scenes with stories, photos, and insights into:
• The high-stakes negotiations that shape global climate policy
• The voices demanding action—from Indigenous leaders to youth activists
• The barriers we face and the solutions gaining momentum
• What it all means for climate action in our own backyard

This is your chance to understand how global climate decisions connect to the work we do right here. Bring your questions, your curiosity, and your commitment to making a difference.

This program is the fourth in the 2025-2026 LWV First Friday Forum series hosted by the League of Women Voters to promote awareness and understanding of public policy issues.
