LAURIE HEADSHOT

Building community for thirty years!

Thirty years ago, Lexington native Jim Shaw and his wife, Laurie Atwater, made a decision that would change their lives. Becoming small business owners was not part of the plan, but as they became more involved in the community and started a family, they decided to make a leap of faith. Marrying their skills—Jim was a public relations professional and spokesman in the public sector, and Laurie was a marketing and advertising professional—they launched what was first called the Lexington Citizen in 1995.

With the support of family, friends, and a loyal group of local advertisers, their modest publication has grown into a full-color, feature-based publication with a loyal readership—and it continues to grow!

Lexington Times Magazine is a full-color, community-based feature publication that provides in-depth articles about Lexington and the important issues that affect the people who live and work here. We celebrate the spirit of community, and the unique history only found in Lexington.

Our goal is to provide the community with human interest stories, and features that cover a diverse range of topics while providing a platform for essential community-based organizations and small businesses to connect with the community in a trusted manner. We are delighted to be a forum where Lexingtonians can learn more about the community, and local businesses and organizations can promote their goods and services.

We cover local issues with context and perspective that we know Lexington readers value. We regularly feature articles about the rich history of our unique area so that, as a community, we can learn more about and appreciate our heritage. Whether it’s the important work of the Lexington Education Foundation, the educational activities of the Lexington Historical Society, or supporting the arts at the LexART and the Munroe Center for the Arts, the Lexington Times Magazine is dedicated to keeping the community informed about the vital work of these and other organizations.

We also publish regular columns, such as Family Matters, Senior Matters, Transportation Matters, and LexRec Connect, as well as other items of community interest including reports from the Lexington DPW and Lexington’s public safety departments.
Each month the Lexington Times Magazine is mailed free to thousands of residents and businesses in and around Lexington. It’s mailed through the U.S. Postal Service to every home and business in Lexington.

We’ve been serving community organizations and local businesses for thirty years. We are proud of our deep roots in Lexington and grateful to our loyal advertisers and readers.
