Driving for FISH is Rewarding

He saw a picture on the back page of the Colonial Times (currently the Lexington Times), of smiling faces of people who had used FISH to get to a medical appointment. When he read the article, he thought to himself—I could do that now that I have more time! That’s a good way to give back to the town. FISH volunteers are a great group of people. By becoming a FISH driver, you meet more people—drivers, riders, neighbors. “I enjoy getting to meet more fellow Lexingtonians. I have had interesting discussions with the clients I have driven. It gives me a good feeling that I am still contributing to the town. Driving for FISH gives you a good feeling of satisfaction, because the clients are so appreciative of the service.”
Many clients tell Dick how important and helpful the service is to them. The service and its importance to those who use it cannot be overstated. Drivers have been told that they provide comfort to their clients by their conversations. Dick describes the conversations as pleasant and rewarding.
If you have one spare day a month, you can make a difference in people’s lives! It can be done on your schedule, when you are available. It’s a good opportunity to meet neighbors and other Lexingtonians. Helping others like driving for FISH helps you become part of the fabric of the town. You can choose to drive locally or to Boston or both. You could opt to be a Back-Up Driver, where you can be called a day ahead.
If you want to become a part of FISH, please email janet.perry@verizon.net. We also have a need for additional phoners. This can be done from your home once a month, and it takes only a couple of hours. No driving, just a phone is involved! If you are interested or have any questions, please use the same email address above.
