Lexington DPW Receives Recognition from APWA
THE NEW ENGLAND CHAPTER (NEAPWA) OF THE NATIONAL AMERICAN PUBLIC WORKS ASSOCIATION (APWA) NAMED THE LEXINGTON DPW AS OUTSTANDING PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT OF 2024.
T he Lexington DPW was nominated by industry peers and selected by a committee of public works professionals and consultants, highlighting their exceptional service and innovation in municipal operations.
- The department earned this distinction through several notable achievements, including:
Completion of the Battle green streetscape project, enhancing community safety and accessibility Implementation of an optimized snow and ice response program that reduced salt usage while maintaining effectiveness Development of a sustainable food waste collection initiative - Enhancement of the road maintenance program, extending infrastructure lifespan while lowering costs
Integration of electric grounds equipment into the maintenance program - Implementation of an Automated Meter Infrastructure System
- Implementation of a sound storm water management plan to meet the EPA permit requirements
- Implementation of a proactive program to replace lead services in the water system
“Lexington is seen as a go-to community for other agencies in New England,” said David Pinsonneault, Director of Public Works. “That recognition is a testament to the dedication and commitment of our staff.”
The Lexington Public Works Department Staff from the front-line worker to management positions continually strives for improvement and looks for innovative ways to provide more efficient and cost effective solutions. The goal is to improve the core services and to deliver those services in a timely manner to the residents.
