The Cary Library Foundation announces the appointment of Mary Ann Sorel as Executive Director
I t is with tremendous gratitude and appreciation that I share the news that Mary Ellen Ringo has resigned as the Executive Director of the Cary Memorial Library Foundation after eight years of service. Under Mary Ellen’s leadership and guidance, the Foundation flourished. The 150th anniversary of Cary Library in 2019 was a highlight – along with her stewardship of the 2024-2025 Capital Campaign that raised $750,000 in private funds for the Children’s Room and Lower Level Renovation (also known as CHiRP!).
We are thrilled to announce that Mary Ann Sorel has accepted the position to be the next Executive Director of the Foundation. Mary Ann, a longtime Lexington resident, assumed the role on April 23, 2025. With a professional background as a corporate lawyer, she has used her expertise to contribute to mission-driven organizations dedicated to education and the Lexington community. Mary Ann currently serves on the Board of the International School of Boston, and previously, she was the Co-Chair of the Community Endowment of Lexington and President of the Lexington Newcomers Club. She can be reached at masorel@carylibraryfoundation.org.
Koren Stembridge, Cary Library Director, says, “The Foundation is a key partner in the success of the Library, and we’re looking forward to working with Mary Ann and the Foundation in the years ahead so our Library continues to be a valuable resource, welcoming all Lexingtonians.”
Please join me in thanking and wishing Mary Ellen Ringo well in her new endeavors and welcoming Mary Ann Sorel as the Executive Director of the Cary Memorial Library Foundation.
